Enocka Odongo

Welcome to KIUESA. There is no doubt that the future of this planet is at stake because of unsustainable anthropogenic activities. Today we are faced with unpresidented environmental challenges that are subjecting many people to profused suffering. Our eco- diversity is declining steadily form these challenges ranging from drought, flood, energy and food shortages, pollution, infrastructural development and climate change. It is clear that unemployment rate is projecting upwards as a result of these environmental challenges besides population increase.. The economy of our nations is as unpredictable as the current weather patterns.

The future and economy of our nation is anchored on natural resources which are impacted heavily by climate change. The time is up for Kenya and Africa to rethink, come together and take urgent action towards mitigating the challenges, because what we are doing today clearly defines our future. The time is now to joins hands, reason together and work towards a green and a better future, which encompass implementation of Kenya's vision 2030, United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa's agenda 2063. And the crucial players in these agenda's implementation are the youths. Numerous opportunities still lie in the environmental sector untapped, and unity and partnerships are needed in order to realize them. It is this generation that must set set the records straight for the current generation and the generation to bel, and we, as Kenya Inter-University Environmental Students Association we are clearing the way by restoring sanity to nature.

Finally, former UN Secretary General said, " Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth.......these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women empowerment. " We are connecting the dots and we call upon you and your organization to join us in our quest for sanity to nature by contributing and doing your little things, because that is what makes a difference (Wangari Maathai).

Thank you.
